DANCE BOX THEATER at Dance Place | *Vote 411*
Dance Box Theater premieres their latest collaboration, Naked King: Subject to Change – Part I. Presented by Dance Place, Naked King: Subject to Change – Part I exposes white supremacy, power and abuse in order to transform towards equity, justice and healing. This full-evening dance theater work examines systems of oppression that perpetuate racism and misogyny, and explores how these cycles of abuse manifest in the art form of dance.
Naked King: Subject to Change – Part I is choreographed by Co-Artistic Directors Stephen Clapp and Laura Schandelmeier, in collaboration with Ronya Lee Anderson, Valerie Branch, Melissa Lineburg, Tariq O’Meally and Pricilla Smith as The Real Donna J. Trump. The work includes an original music score by Stephen Clapp, costumes by Pauline Anderson and Ronya-Lee Anderson, lighting design by Marianne Meadows, and staging and dramaturgy by Holly Bass.
September is Voter Registration Month. The League of Women Voters’ Vote 411.org campaign, the 2020 One Woman One Vote Festival, and theatreWashington are bringing voting information to theatre patrons across the country and especially to inspire voting-age women in a historic year. 2020 is just around the corner — a major election year and the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment giving women the vote. Look for an information table in the lobby for this performance.
