In November 2019, our festival partner, the National Museum of Women In the Arts Cultural Capital series presented the world premiere of 19: The Musical in its entirety. All performances were SOLD OUT! The NMWA Cultural Capital programs are part of the museum’s Women, Arts & Social Change initiative.
Written and directed by Jennifer Schwed and Doug Bradshaw with music composed by Charlie Barnett. 19: The Musical is the inspirational story of Alice Paul, Susan B. Anthony, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Inez Miholland, Carrie Chapman Catt, and other fearless women brought to life through jazz, traditional musical standards style, spoken word, hints of gospel, and dance. The suffragists and their fight for equality are reimagined for a new generation with a poignant and uplifting message.
